So.. i have been completely neglecting this blog.. im sure googlers are searching and have fallen very dissapointed with my lack of communication with u. I totally said i wouldnt shy away.. gahhh!! my bad... anywhoot... its 2010 bitches!! My last post was in September and yeaaaa alot has happened since then.. i declare! Let's see... well, i turned 24 in November!

Virginia State University was founded in 1882 as the Virginia Normal and Collegiate Institute, making it the first fully state supported, four-year institution of higher learning for Blacks in America. Today, Virginia State University is one of Virginia's two land-grant institutions.

It is accessible by Interstates 95 and 85, which intersect in adjacent Petersburg, as well as U.S. Routes 1, 301 and 460. The University is centrally located about two hours away from Washington, DC to the north, the North Carolina Triangle area to the south, the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east.

VSU students live and learn on a 236-acre main campus, with more than 50 buildings, including 15 dormitories and 16 classroom buildings, and a 416-acre agricultural research facility. Moore, Jr., former Virginia State Treasurer, the University boasts healthy fiscal management and growth, with a 2005-06 operating budget of over $110 million.The University's academic programs include the "Bridges to Baccalaureate" program for students transferring from two-year colleges who want to major in the sciences, the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge and the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program for students planning to pursue doctoral degrees in their chosen field of study. Honors scholarships are also available to entering freshmen, including the Presidential and Provost Scholarships. Virginia State University offers 49 baccalaureate and master's degree programs and a Certificate of Advanced Study within five schools: The School of Agriculture; The School of Business; The School of Engineering, Science and Technology; The School of Liberal Arts and Education; and The School of Graduate Studies, Research and Outreach. In the Fall of 2003, Virginia State University introduced its first-ever doctoral program, as a cohort of 12 students began studying for the Doctor of Education in Administration and Supervision. In 2005, VSU welcomed the first students to its Nursing Program. This important program was introduced to meet the pressing need for qualified nurses in the Southside Virginia region.The School of Graduate Studies, Research and Outreach provides access for non-traditional students in the surrounding counties to continue their education toward formal degree programs, for professional growth or for self-enrichment. The emphasis is on convenience and access, with workshops, seminars and institutes, in addition to credit courses, on campus and at off-campus sites in Richmond, Emporia, Petersburg, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Henrico and other Southside Virginia locations.
The School of Graduate Studies also coordinates a bachelor of individualized studies degree program, a non-traditional baccalaureate program primarily for working adults. Students can pursue the degree on a full-time or part-time basis.

Every now and then i like to pay tribute to a few of my favorite things. I'm not Oprah so nahhh im definitely not hosting a give-away... but. "New Jersey Drive is a 1995 film about African-American youths in Newark, New Jersey; the unofficial car theft capital of the world. Their favorite pastime is that of everybody in their neighborhood: stealing cars and joyriding. The trouble starts when they steal a police car and the cops launch a violent offensive that involves beating and even shooting suspects. The film stars Sharron Corley, Gabriel Casseus, and Saul Stein. At the time, the city of Newark had the highest automobile theft rate in the country, and Newark mayor Sharpe James refused to allow filming of New Jersey Drive within the city limits; therefore, the filming locations were in the surrounding locations of Newark rather than Newark itself." -Wikepedia

This seminal R&B trio was the first group to sport the new jack swing sound, essentially traditional soul vocals melded to hip-hop beats, with credit for the genre's invention going to founder, multi-instrumentalist, and super-producer Teddy Riley. Riley formed his first band, Wreckx-N-Effect, while still a teenager, with brothers Markell Riley and Brandon Mitchell; Guy followed a few years later in 1987. Its first incarnation featured vocalists Aaron Hall and Timmy Gatling. Their self-titled debut album was an instant smash, producing the R&B hits "I Like," "Groove Me," "Spend the Night," and "Teddy's Jam." Meanwhile, Riley found himself in strong demand as a songwriter and producer; in 1988, Riley produced Bobby Brown's Don't Be Cruel, the album that helped new jack swing cross over into the pop mainstream. Riley has also worked with Kool Moe Dee, Michael Jackson (Dangerous), Stevie Wonder, Keith Sweat, Jane Child, and SWV, among others. In between albums, Guy contributed songs to the soundtracks of Do the Right Thing and New Jack City.
By 1989, Guy was in turmoil; Riley's brother Brandon Mitchell was killed in a shooting, and the group became involved in an acrimonious split with manager Gene Griffin over money. 1990's The Future featured Hall's brother, Albert Damion Hall, in place of Gatling and spawned R&B hits in "Let's Chill," "Do Me Right," "D-O-G Me Out," and "Long Gone." However, by the time Riley and Guy finally started to attract media attention for their innovative and influential work, the trio had broken up. Riley concentrated on his production and songwriting career for several years before forming the band Blackstreet with vocalists Chauncey "Black" Hannibal, Dave Hollister, and Levi Little. The quartet released a self-titled debut in 1994. Aaron Hall released his solo debut, The Truth, in 1993; brother Damion followed in 1994 with Straight to the Point.
